As the principal of MAD Dance I am passionate about teaching children to LOVE dance! I aim to create a safe, happy, encouraging, challenging environment that each and every student can call home. I make it my business to get to know the students (even ones that are not in my classes) and share a positive attitude and build trusting caring relationships with all.
I have danced since the age of 2 with my second mum at a place I still call home Cathy Makin Dance Academy. I trained in all styles 4 days a week until work life made me have to bow out but I actually danced competitively and did exams etc up until I was 28! That’s how much I lived and breathed Dance. I completed RAD ballet exams up until teaching level and Pullars Tap Exams again to teaching level. I completed Dance in my HSC with fabulous results and performed as a featured dancer in Star Struck and School Spectacular all throughout my high school years with Hunter School of performing arts where I was selected for the prestigious Dance ensemble – this again provided many opportunities and further training in all genres of dance.
While I do come from the competitive world of dance and LOVED IT I understand the need for the fun and less daunting side that some students who are just wanting to enjoy their hobby so that’s where MAD Dance has become my vision to create exactly that. I also strive to keep it as affordable as possible to ensure it’s accessible to all.
In addition to dance I am also a childcare educator (Diploma Trained) and also currently work part time in this industry also.
I have two young children so over the last few years I’ve had to step back a little from teaching and my fabulous team have been there all the way to help and keep everything running smoothly for which I am so grateful. I am now starting to be back on board more and I’m so excited for what the future holds for MAD
I sincerely hope you enjoy your journey with us!
Welcome to the family !!!!!!!

Kara began dancing at age 6 and has been hooked ever since. She took up classical ballet under the instruction of Cathy Makin and her team of teachers at the Cathy Makin Dance Academy in 1999. Since then she has completed her Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) Classical Ballet exams through to teaching level, as well as achieving high marks and many ribbons in eisteddfods across the NSW coast. Over the years she has trained in many dance styles including Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Modern (lyrical) and Contemporary.
Kara began teaching the RAD classical ballet in 2012 and have loved every minute. In 2013 she attended the RAD Grade 1-3 syllabus teacher development course as a start to her teacher training. By 2018 she had completed her RAD Certificate of Ballet Teaching Studies qualification and became a registered teacher. In 2020, Kara also obtained her Level 1 certification in Progressing Ballet Technique under the instruction of Miss Marie Walton-Mahon.
A classical Ballet class does not only teach us good posture and placement of the body for injury prevention. It also teaches the students self-discipline, respect and confidence. Kara feels very privileged to have the opportunity to pass on her knowledge and love of dance to the wonderful MAD dancers. She loves seeing their technique and confidence grow with each lesson they attend. Kara loves inspiring her students to be better dancers each and every week. She simply loves teaching dance!!
